I am in the process of looking for very small form factor devices to run standard Linux on. By standard I mean not Arm. Nothing against Arm, but that is a special world. The goal was small, PoE powered and handles a standard Linux install.
I came across the Minisforum S100. Looked to be near ideal even if it was in a case bound for cooling problems.
Currently my OS of choice for Linux servers is Alma. Upon install it fails to find the storage device. This is due to the kernel version not supporting the Intel Alder Lake Universal Flash Storage Host Controller. This was added in Kernel 5.15 and later while the Alma installer uses 5.14.
The joys of a distro being so far behind modern releases.
